Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Presentation: Sea Otter Reintroduction to the Southern Oregon Coast: Projected Regional Travel Impacts
March 13 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm
The Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Wednesday Business Connection (WBC) is your place to network with the community and is free and open to the public! WBC is held every Wednesday 11:30 AM -1 PM, (September through May) in the Salmon Room (west) at the Mill Casino Hotel & RV Park in North Bend, OR.
On March 13th, Kyle Motley (Elakha Alliance Coastal Community Coordinator) and Jordan Bohlander (Dean Runyan Associates) will be the guest presenters.
The Elakha Alliance contracted with Dean Runyon & Associates to complete a study focused on how reintroducing sea otters to the Southern Oregon Coast could impact the travel and tourism industries in the region. Wildlife tourism is a sector of the travel industry that offers visitors the
opportunity to view, appreciate, or learn about wildlife. Like all other sectors of the travel industry, wildlife tourism injects “outside money” into the local economy. The study estimates that there would be a positive economic impact due to increased travel-related spending in the region once a sea otter population is established. This presentation will provide information about the Elakha Alliance’s work to reintroduce sea otters to the Oregon Coast and how reintroduction might impact local tourism economies. The mission of the WBC forum committee is to provide an opportunity for businesses to network with each other, market products, and expand their knowledge of the Bay Area business climate. The forums focus on the positive aspects of doing business in Oregon’s Bay Area. Speakers and subject matter include new businesses moving to the area, business expansions, and issues or items that can impact your operations.
