The Elakha Alliance is leading the effort to bring sea otters back, and we need your help. We Otter Bring Them Back is an individual fundraising and social media campaign designed to empower passionate individuals like you to spread awareness, inspire action, and raise critical funds for sea otter restoration in Oregon.
Campaign Runs: May 9th-June 8th, 2025
By joining the campaign, you become an Otter Advocate—sharing the story of Oregon’s missing sea otters with your community, and directly contributing to the return of this essential species. We’re encouraging each Otter Advocate to aim for a $250 fundraising goal to help us reach our ultimate target of $10,000!
This is more than a fundraiser—it’s a movement to restore an entire ecosystem. Every conversation you spark, every social media post you share, and every dollar you raise brings more awareness to the importance of sea otters and their vital role in Oregon’s coastal ecosystem. Your participation helps the Elakha Alliance educate communities, inspire action, and build a movement dedicated to restoring balance to our oceans.

How To Participate in the We Otter Bring Them Back
Fundraising & Social Media Campaign
Follow the steps below to become an Otter Advocate in the We Otter Bring Them Back fundraising and social media campaign:
- Register To Be An Otter Advocate – Click the button above to register with a $25 donation, which includes a specialty Campaign T-Shirt to show off your support as seen to the right. Adult Short Sleeve and Long Sleeve options are available, including Youth Short Sleeve. To receive your shirt by the campaign start day of May 9th, make sure to register by April 18th.
- After Registering – You Will Be Asked to Create Your Own Givebutter Fundraising Page: We are utilizing the Givebutter Platform, which you can share your individual page with your friends and family, and inspire others to join this important cause.
- Spread the Word: Your Campaign T-Shirt order will include our We Otter Bring Them Back social media poster! You can also download it here. We’d love for you to take photos with friends and family or bring the poster to the coast where you think sea otters should be reintroduced. Share your pictures on social media to help spread the word about the Elakha Alliance’s efforts—don’t forget to tag us

As a thank-you for your incredible support, we’re offering special prizes for our top Otter Advocates!
Top Fundraiser – Awarded to the advocate who raises the most funds in the We Otter Bring Them Back campaign.
Community Champion – Given to the advocate with the highest number of individual donors contributing to their campaign page.- Social Media Savvy – Awarded to the individual who had the most creative use of the We Otter Bring Them Back Sign in a social media post.
Every effort counts, and this is your chance to make a big splash for sea otter recovery—plus, win some awesome rewards!
We are using a fundraising platform called Givebutter. You’ll join as a team member on our Givebutter fundraising page and use its tools to share that on social media and via email to engage your friends and family.
Any participant can visit our Givebutter campaign (or you can send them your personal page link) and click on the team member they would like to support. When they are on your page, they can click “Donate” at the top right to share their support on your behalf.
First, you will need to sign in to or create a Givebutter account after registering.
Then, you’re asked to share a fundraising goal and write a note sharing why you support the Elakha Alliance and why you hope your friends donate. You can share why returning sea otters back to Oregon means so much to you.
Lastly, you can add an additional picture or video if you’d like. We encourage you to take a photo with yourself and the We Otter Bring Them Back poster as your profile photo! The picture could also be some pretty spot on the coast or a picture of sea otters that you’ve taken (If you don’t have anything appropriate, feel free to use any picture from our webpage, or you can email Info@ElakhaAlliance.org, and we can email you one).
Once you’ve set up your Givebutter page and like the way it looks, you can click on the link to “Share,” which offers up options to directly post on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, or get the link that you can copy and paste directly into an email, text message, or social media post.
We encourage you to start sharing your participation in the campaign about a month before the May 9th start date. For example:

These incredible animals play a crucial role in keeping our ocean ecosystems healthy, but they’ve been missing from our waters for over a century. The Elakha Alliance is working hard to bring them back, and I’m raising funds to support their efforts.
I’d love for you to join me in this movement! Every donation helps restore balance to our marine environment, benefiting not just sea otters, but all Oregonians who depend on a thriving coast.

After paying the $25 registration fee (which includes a complimentary shirt), Otter Advocates do not have to donate. However, we do feel most fundraisers will want to make at least a small donation (even $5) on their own fundraising page to help build momentum towards their goal.
The We Otter Bring Them Back campaign will run from May 9th-June 8th, 2025. We encourage Otter Advocates to begin sharing their fundraising page at least a week in advance to rally their friends to pledge their donations.
Every dollar raised through the We Otter Bring Them Back campaign directly supports the Elakha Alliance’s outreach and education efforts, helping us spread awareness about the importance of sea otters and marine conservation. Here’s how your support makes a difference:
Community Engagement – We host educational events, webinars, and presentations to inform Oregonians about the ecological role of sea otters and the benefits of their return.
Youth & School Programs – We develop resources and presentations for classrooms, inspiring the next generation of ocean stewards.
Tribal & Coastal Community Collaboration – We work alongside Oregon’s coastal Tribes, fishermen, and local residents to share knowledge, listen to concerns, and build a restoration plan that benefits both people and wildlife.
Public Awareness Campaigns – From social media storytelling to in-person events, we’re working to make sea otter recovery a well-known and widely supported cause.
